Senior Accountant

Where: Canada | Remote - with an option to work in office in Halifax, NS.

Wage: $65,000–$75,000 a year - Full-time

THE ROLE

As a Senior Accountant, you’ll wear many hats — blending technical accounting expertise, client service, and team leadership. You’ll ensure client accounting data is accurate, timely, and insightful, reviewing detailed work prepared by junior staff while also stepping back to highlight key opportunities and risks from a client’s perspective. Beyond managing the numbers, you’ll play a central role in automating workflows, producing meaningful financial reports, and delivering strategic advice that helps clients grow with clarity and confidence. This role is ideal for someone who is forward-thinking, tech-savvy, and motivated to coach and inspire others while driving excellence across the accounting team.

  • Your Responsibilities:

    Firm Operations & Team Development

    • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of firm-wide accounting processes and best practices.

    • Oversee workflow in Karbon, managing triage, My Week planning, and progress notes.

    • Stay current with cloud accounting tools and lead adoption of new applications.

    • Identify professional development opportunities and provide training to the team.

    Client Delivery

    • Review monthly or quarterly work prepared by junior staff or client staff, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

    • Prepare and deliver management reports, video reviews, and financial review meetings.

    • Support delivery of bill pay, payroll, budgeting, forecasting, and other client services.

    • Review GST/HST filings, including accuracy checks and reasonability testing.

    • Attend client meetings to discuss financial performance, and business objectives.

    Accounting Systems & Tax

    • Execute system implementations, onboarding and conversions for new clients.

    • Prepare responses to CRA inquiries, reviews, and audits.

    Special Projects

    • Manage historical catch-up/clean-up projects for new clients.

Tax Accountant

Where: Canada | Remote - with an option to work in office in Halifax, NS.

THE ROLE

As a Tax Senior, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality tax and non-assurance engagements while acting as a technical and workflow resource for both clients and internal team members. You’ll balance hands-on preparation and review work with client communication, coaching junior staff, and continuously improving our tax processes.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys technical tax compliance work, values strong client relationships, and wants to grow within a modern, advisory-focused firm.

  • YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

    Tax & Compliance

    • Prepare and review personal and corporate income tax returns (T1s, T2s), including related schedules and elections.

    • Plan, perform, and review financial statement compilation engagements for a variety of clients.

    • Complete and review non-assurance engagements for small business clients.

    • Prepare and review GST/HST returns, including reasonability checks and follow-up on discrepancies.

    • Prepare responses to CRA inquiries, reviews, and audits.

    Client Service & Advisory

    • Communicate directly with clients, including business owners, controllers, and finance managers.

    • Identify tax planning opportunities and flag issues or risks for review by managers or partners.

    • Participate in client meetings and calls to discuss tax filings, results, and next steps.

    • Support proactive, timely communication with clients throughout the year — not just at filing deadlines.

    Firm Operations & Team Support

    • Review work prepared by junior staff, providing clear, constructive feedback.

    • Assist with training and mentoring junior team members on tax and compilation work.

    • Manage assigned work in Karbon, including task planning, deadlines, and progress notes.

    • Contribute to the continuous improvement of tax processes, templates, and workflows.

    • Stay current on Canadian tax legislation and best practices.

    Special Projects

    • Support clean-up, catch-up, and historical tax filings for new or transitioning clients.

    • Assist with internal projects related to automation, documentation, or process optimization.
